“FYI: Prior to seventh grade he did not need to study to maintain honors (A's), having to study is new to him, school had always been easy for him.  Because of this, now that it's harder and he has to study to retain some knowledge, I believe that he has thought he's not as smart as he used to be.  He hadn't realized that others have always had to study.  He has always enjoyed learning and I'd like him to continue that joy and realize that there is a great reward in working hard and it's not a judgment against his intelligence.  

 “Last semester his grades dropped because he didn't turn in a couple of homework assignments.  He, at times, has not understood the correlation between homework and class performance (discussions, tests, etc.).  I believe that he is beginning to see how completing assignments on time assists him in all of his classes. I believe that you'll be a great help to him and look forward to seeing his confidence rise again.  He could use a great mentor.  ...”
